ATLANTA, August 25, 2008– Peachford Hospital, the Atlanta based inpatient behavioral health and substance abuse hospital, has appointed Joel L. Axler, MD to their medical staff, acting as the Medical Director for all psychiatric and substance abuse programs.
Dr. Axler comes to Peachford with significant experience and medical training. Dr. Axler received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed a residency at The Institute of Living, Hartford Connecticut and a pediatric internship at Hartford Hospital, University of Connecticut Medical School. He continued with a fellowship in Child Psychiatry at Columbia University and was Chief Fellow at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He is board certified in psychiatry and neurology, child and adolescent psychiatry and is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners.
Dr. Axler is an active member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Society, the Georgia Council on Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Axler has been in private practice specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry for many years. He has served as the Clinical Director for Brawner Psychiatric Institute, Medical Director for Parkwood Hospital and most recently as the Regional Psychiatric Medical Director for United Behavioral Health. Dr. Axler joins a team of professionals who have been providing treatment for children, adolescents, adults and senior adults with behavioral health and addictive diseases in a comprehensive array of inpatient and outpatient services for over 30 years.
