Under the Direction of Karen Macke, LPC and Adolph Casal, M.D.

The Program Philosophy

The Eating Disorders Program at Peachford Hospital is committed to providing our patients with an opportunity to heal, grow and create a healthy lifestyle in order to address physical and mental health problems. The staff involved with the care of each patient guide and support the development of a healthy relationship with food, body, self and others, based on empowerment, self-responsibility and respect.

Inpatient Program

The 12-bed specialized inpatient eating disorders unit is designed to treat male and female patients ages 13 and up suffering from anorexia, bulimia, disordered eating patterns and other mental health issues. The program embraces a comprehensive medical model in a safe, therapeutic setting with 24/7 medical supervision. Patients will collaborate with staff to create a treatment plan that considers their individual needs, providing a holistic approach that addresses emotional, psychological, physical and spiritual aspects in order to deal with the issues that drive the eating disordered behaviors.

Upon admission a psychiatrist, psychotherapist and a nutritionist will assess each patient and an individualized treatment plan is then developed for each patient and a therapist is assigned to every case.

The main goal of the program is to provide patients with practical tools with which to contain symptoms: modifying distorted thinking, normalizing body image, correcting disordered thinking and normalizing weight. Emphasis is placed on developing healthy coping skills, managing stress, working on core issues and preventing relapse.

Unique Aspects of the Program

  • A specialized program is available for the treatment of males.
  • On a case by case basis, tube feeding is available.
  • Discharge planning begins at the time of the admission. Communication and partnership with referring clinicians is seen as a critical process that allows us to provide the most effective care possible.
  • Treatment Team consists of a psychiatrist, internist, nutritionist, therapist and RN.
