Adolescents

Like adults, many adolescents suffer mental illnesses such as severe depression, personality disorders or other psychiatric problems. Some may become defiant, withdrawn, or even suicidal. Drug and alcohol addictions are becoming more common and serious among teenagers and can easily destroy young lives. Our program is directed towards helping adolescents increase self-esteem and take responsibility for their behaviors without turning to drugs or alcohol for help.

OUR PROGRAM CONTINUUM:

Peachford offers the following psychiatric and/or substance abuse care options for adolescents:

Acute Inpatient
Partial Hospitalization
Intensive Outpatient
Individual Outpatient by referral

Parenting Classes

Inpatient care addresses acute problems of a critical nature with highly structured programming; Partial Care allows teenagers to receive six hours of specialized treatment per day while living at home. Appropriate referrals are made to qualified professionals when outpatient therapy is deemed to be the most effective course of treatment. The Intensive Outpatient Program allows the adolescent to maintain his or her regular school schedule and live at home, while receiving complete treatment services for psychiatric and/or substance abuse problems. Upon successful completion of a course of treatment, a follow-up Aftercare Program is available at no charge to help the patient transition out of treatment.

When Outpatient Therapy is deemed to be the most effective course of treatment, Peachford provides a variety of outpatient services as well as a referral network to area health professionals.

Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program

Our free standing adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program is located adjacent to the hospital in the Peachford Medical Office Building. This program is a specially designed program that is intended to meet the unique needs of adolescents who are experiencing psychiatric symptoms and/or substance abuse problems that impair their daily functioning. The program is offered 5 days a week from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and is based on the Level System of therapeutic progress. It encompasses group therapy, individual therapy, creative expressions therapy and school. Family involvement is a vital part of the treatment process and can assist in reducing relapse as the family members become actively involved in the therapeutic process.

Parenting Classes

Peachford offers Parenting classes for families of patients enrolled at Peachford as well as families from the community. These classes are offered on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. and are based on the STEP program (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting), which has almost 30 years of research supporting its effectiveness in improving family relationships.
